Make Baby Swim Nappies A Summer Essential
Summer is the perfect time for families to head off to the beach or take the cover off the backyard pool for some fun in the sun. It’s also the ideal time to introduce your baby or toddler to the water.
But one of the major issues for most new parents is what to do about swim nappies for babies? Do you opt for a pair of mini-speedos, ordinary disposables or reusable swim nappies?
The answer has got to be reusable baby swim nappies and here’s why:
- A pair of mini-speedos or a little swim suit may look really cute, but what happens when baby decides it’s time for number 2’s? You could end up with a major embarrassment on your hands (and everywhere else for that matter!)
It seems too logical to even mention, but it would seem from experience that some parents don’t grasp the fact that babies and toddlers who aren’t yet toilet-trained have no idea about the niceties involved and don’t understand the difference between the beach and the bathroom.
- Disposables may seem like the practical solution, but just wait till baby has spent more than a few minutes in the water. Disposables are designed to capture moisture – and capture it they do — about 5 litres of it! (maybe that’s a slight exaggeration, but suffice to say it’s an awful lot).
The average disposable will leave your baby absolutely water logged and extremely uncomfortable. What’s more, once the nappy has filled with water, it offers very little protection against spills of any description so once again, you may find yourself with a very embarrassing predicament on your hands.
- Reusable swim nappies are designed for exactly what they claim to be – swimming – which also includes water play of all descriptions.
So let’s look at the many benefits of a reusable baby swim nappy over its alternatives:
- A reusable swim nappy can last upwards of 2 years, which means they are very economical. A medium sized cloth swim nappy will fit a baby from 6 months to over 2 years of age (and up to 3 years for girls), so one reusable swim nappy will last throughout your baby’s “nappy years” quite comfortably.
- Reusable swim nappies are designed to adjust as baby grows with either stud fasteners or Velcro.
- Cloth swim nappies are generally made from either stretchy swimsuit material or water-resistant cloth that doesn’t restrict movement. Most swim nappies come with an inner lining especially designed for catching spills, making them easy to change.
- Ordinary cloth nappies or disposables quickly fill with water, making them cumbersome and uncomfortable and restricting movement.
- Disposables clog up our landfill, creating an environmental nightmare. Reusable swim nappies can be thrown in the wash along with mum and dad’s swimsuits and dry quickly, so they are ready for use again within a couple of hours.
- Reusable baby swim nappies come in a range of fabulous colours and patterns, which means your baby will not only learn to swim with greater ease and enjoyment, he or she will look trendy at the same time!
